Small chapel, now private, preserving two overlapping fresco cycles in its apse, from the 12th and 15th centuries.

Along the main road in Polla stands the small chapel known as Sant'Antuono, dedicated to St Anthony the Abbot and now privately owned. Its treasure lies in the apse, where the remains of no fewer than two overlapping painting cycles are preserved. The more recent one, from the 15th century, shows in the half-dome a Christ Pantocrator above haloed figures that have now faded, perhaps repeating the layout of the older decoration. Of the latter six blessing apostles remain, dated to the 12th century, in a Byzantine-inspired style reinterpreted in an original way. As it is private, a visit is not always possible: we recommend enquiring beforehand.
