Where the train doesn't go, the bus does: on the Amalfi Coast, the Sorrento Peninsula, in the Cilento and inland the bus is often the only public transport. Here is how to find your way.

Timetables and tickets change with the seasons and with strikes: always check the official websites we point you to before you travel. We explain how things work; they have the up-to-date details.

From Naples airport

The Alibus shuttle run by ANM links Capodichino airport with Piazza Garibaldi (central station) and Piazza Municipio, near the port and Molo Beverello. Direct coaches also leave the airport for Sorrento and other towns in the region: see the airports page.

Amalfi Coast and Sorrento Peninsula

SITA Sud buses run along the Amalfi Coast road: from Sorrento to Positano and Amalfi, and from Amalfi to Ravello and Salerno. They are the cheapest way to tour the coast, but in summer they fill up quickly: board at the terminus when you can and buy your ticket before getting on. Timetables on SITA Sud.

Alternatively, ferries run along the coast from Salerno, Amalfi and Positano: no traffic, and a view worth the trip.

Salerno and the Cilento

Busitalia Campania runs Salerno's city buses and many lines in the province, including the link between the station and Salerno airport. In the Cilento, buses connect inland villages with the coastal stations. Information on Busitalia.

Avellino, Benevento and Caserta

AIR Campania links Naples with Avellino, Benevento and Caserta and serves the villages of Irpinia, the Sannio and the Caserta area, as well as Benevento's city buses. For many villages it is the only public transport: check timetables carefully, especially on public holidays. Information on AIR Campania.

In Naples

ANM city buses complement the metro and funiculars. In the historic centre, though, walking is still the best way to get around.

Tickets

Many lines accept Unico Campania integrated tickets, valid on several companies within the same zone, as well as each company's own tickets. Buy them at tobacconists, ticket offices and on the Unico Campania app. Tickets bought on board, where available, cost more.
