Old Poor Clares monastery, seat of the town council since 1883, with a paved cloister and a carved stone cistern from 1818.

Since 1883 the town of Polla has had its seat in the old monastery of the Poor Clares, as the coat of arms above the fine portal recalls. Beyond the vestibule, a second portal dated 1739 marked the entrance to the enclosure. After the 1980 earthquake the building was renovated to a design by Paolo Portoghesi, preserving its ancient structure. We like the small cloister paved with the original stone slabs, where a cistern stands out with a finely carved stone wellhead dated 1818: for over two centuries the nuns drew water from it. The cells now house offices, and the old little church of Santa Chiara has become the council chamber, with a stone portal and a cartouche with a Latin inscription.
