Campania has two airports, both run by Gesac: Naples Capodichino, the main one, a few kilometres from central Naples, and Salerno Costa d'Amalfi e del Cilento, at Pontecagnano, handy for the Amalfi Coast, Paestum and the Cilento.
November 2026: Naples airport is closed to flights from 1 to 30 November 2026 while the runway is rebuilt. Some flights move to Salerno, others to Rome: always check with your airline where your flight leaves from and how to get there.
Timetables and tickets change with the seasons and with strikes: always check the official websites we point you to before you travel. We explain how things work; they have the up-to-date details.
Naples Capodichino
It is one of the airports closest to the centre of a big city: by car or taxi you reach the centre in a few minutes, traffic permitting.
- Alibus shuttle: links the airport with the central station (Piazza Garibaldi) and Piazza Municipio, near the port. From there you can take the metro, trains, ferries and hydrofoils. See Buses and shuttles.
- Taxis: there are fixed fares for the main areas of the city; ask the driver before setting off.
- Coaches: direct coaches leave the airport for Sorrento and other places in the region.
- Car hire: the main companies are in the arrivals terminal. See Driving and parking.
- For the islands and the coast: Alibus to Piazza Municipio, then walk to Molo Beverello for ferries and hydrofoils. See Ferries.
Salerno Costa d'Amalfi e del Cilento
The airport lies between Pontecagnano and Bellizzi, about half an hour from Salerno. The Salerno Airlink service by Busitalia Campania goes to Salerno station, where you can catch trains and ferries for the Amalfi Coast, and can be bought together with a regional train ticket. It is the closest airport to Paestum and the Cilento.
Which one to choose
- Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento, Capri, Ischia, Procida, Caserta: Naples Capodichino.
- Amalfi Coast: either; from Salerno you avoid Naples traffic and reach the coast by sea.
- Paestum, Cilento, Vallo di Diano: Salerno.
- Irpinia and the Sannio: Naples, then bus or car.
