19th-century palace built on the site of Polla's 14th-century castle, with the old prisons and the Villano family coat of arms.

Where, at the beginning of the 14th century, Tommaso Sanseverino, Count of Marsico and founder of the Charterhouse of Padula, had built an impregnable castle, a 19th-century palace stands today. Destroyed by the earthquake of 1561, the castle was rebuilt by the feudal lord Giovanni Villano, as a plaque next to the stone portal leading into the courtyard records. From the courtyard you reached the Bourbon prisons, used until 1857, the year of another earthquake after which the building took on its present appearance. The small courtyard preserves the Villano coat of arms, lords of Polla from 1556 to 1668, with a carved lion's head and paw. We like looking for its replicas around the palace.
