Palazzo San Francesco

  • Visit: about 50 min

Seat of Sant'Agata de' Goti's town hall, Palazzo San Francesco occupies the old Franciscan friary next to the church of the same name.

Palazzo San Francesco is the former friary of the Friars Minor of Sant'Agata de' Goti, built next to the Church of San Francesco, whose origins date back to the 13th century. In the 19th century the complex became the town hall, which it still houses today. We like the 18th-century portal and the Roman inscription set into the corner, a small trace of the town's ancient past.Inside, the friary's cells and cloister survive. On the first floor, the Council Chamber is decorated with views of Sant'Agata and a canvas of 1899 by Vincenzo Severino. We recommend completing the visit with the adjoining church, where the funerary monument of Ludovico d'Artus and the majolica floor with stories of St Francis stand out.
