Romanesque gem of Sant'Agata de' Goti, consecrated in 1100 and home to the oldest opus sectile floor in the region.

On the southern edge of the old town of Sant'Agata de' Goti, close to the walls and opposite the castle, we find one of the churches we love most in the Sannio. Founded at the end of the 11th century by Count Robert of Alife as the Church of San Pietro, it was consecrated by Pope Paschal II in 1100. A few years later it received the relics of the hermit St Menna, becoming a pilgrimage destination. The Romanesque interior has a nave and two aisles, divided by arches on reused columns and closed by three apses, on the model of the basilica of Montecassino. We recommend taking your time over the opus sectile floor, the oldest in Campania, together with the marble screens, an early medieval altar frontal and Gothic frescoes. The portal and Baroque atrium tell of the 18th-century alterations.
