In Sant'Agata de' Goti the Church of San Francesco holds a wooden ceiling, a painted floor and the tomb of Ludovico d'Artus.
The Church of San Francesco came into being when the small Franciscan community, settled in the chapel of San Francesco Vetere outside the walls, obtained permission to move inside the town, away from an isolated hill often targeted by brigands. In the 18th century the building was modernised and in the 19th century the adjoining friary became the town hall.Inside we are struck by the 18th-century wooden coffered ceiling, the painted floor made in Naples with scenes from the life of St Francis and the tomb of Ludovico d'Artus, lord of Sant'Agata until 1370. The side chapels bear the coats of arms of local patrician families. We also recommend having a look at the cloister of the former friary.
