Church of San Rocco in Morcone

  • Visit: about 20 min

The small Church of San Rocco in Morcone, set in greenery next to a fountain, is linked to the 16 August feast and the tradition of the frese.

About 500 metres from Morcone Castle, surrounded by greenery and close to a fountain of ice-cold water, we find the Church of San Rocco. It is a small single-nave building, built next to an old burial ground, probably during a time of plague, when the saint from Montpellier was invoked as a protector. We love the tradition linked to the feast of 16 August: on that day people dip and eat frese, large rusks that recall the folk tale of the dog that brought bread to the sick St Roch. We recommend walking there along the municipal road, enjoying the peace of the place.
