Among Sassinoro's oak woods, a neo-Romanesque sanctuary built around the grotto of the apparitions of St Lucy and St Michael.

Set in an oak wood, the Sanctuary of Santa Lucia is one of the most evocative places in Sassinoro. According to tradition, in the 17th century some shepherds discovered a grotto hidden by vegetation here, where they saw St Lucy and St Michael the Archangel appear, and then found their images imprinted in the rock. The site soon became a pilgrimage destination. The present neo-Romanesque building dates from the 20th century: the rose window and the local-stone bell tower stand out on the façade. Inside, we recommend looking for the grotto, still visible, the two Carrara marble statues and the stained-glass windows that tell the legend. During the works a bronze statue of Demeter from the 3rd century BC was also found.
