A small church of 1534 in the heart of Paternopoli, with a marble altar, wooden choir and 18th-century canvases.

In the centre of Paternopoli, where Piazza Kennedy, Via Aldo Moro and Via Croce meet, we find the church of San Giuseppe, a small sacred building erected in 1534. We like it because, in just a few dozen square metres, it tells the story of a village set between the Fredane and Calore valleys, where popular faith has left discreet but enduring marks.Inside, we suggest looking at the fine marble altar, the wooden choir and the 18th-century paintings that enrich the hall. The 1980 earthquake struck it hard, and the original roof has been replaced with a modern sheet-metal one: a still-visible sign of Irpinia's wounds. From here it is easy to continue to the sanctuary of the Consolazione and the church of San Francesco.
