Church of Santa Maria del Carmine in Luogosano

  • Visit: about 20 min
  • 350 m

A small 18th-century chapel at the entrance to Luogosano, with walls incorporating Roman-era materials.

As you enter Luogosano you are greeted by the chapel of Santa Maria del Carmine, a small 18th-century building right at the entrance to the village. We like to take a careful look at its walls: Roman-era materials have been reused in the masonry, a small trace of the long history of this corner of the Calore valley.Inside are paintings, statues of saints and 19th-century sacred furnishings, a testament to local devotion. We suggest coming by for the feast of the Madonna del Carmine, celebrated every year in mid-July, when the chapel becomes the heart of village life. It is a short but pleasant stop before heading up to the historic centre.
