Castelfranci's much-loved sanctuary, linked to the legend of the August snow, with a three-doorway façade and paintings by Vigilante.
At the entrance to the historic centre we find the church of Santa Maria del Soccorso, the place dearest to Castelfranci's devotion. It is dated to the 16th century and, according to tradition, was built by popular will: the Virgin is said to have marked the spot with an August snowfall that traced the outline of the chapel on the ground.The 18th-century façade has three doorways and a bell tower, while the interior has three naves. We like to look up at the vault, with the Immaculate Conception painted by Matteo Vigilante, who also painted the Madonna del Soccorso on the high altar. We recommend the feast on the first Sunday of August, which livens up the square in front of the church.
