In Aversa, the Aragonese Castle with square walls and crenellated towers, restored by Vanvitelli in 1750, now a court building.

Near the Church of Santa Maria a Piazza, in Aversa, stands the Aragonese Castle, also known as the Castle of Roger II: an imposing building with thick square walls and crenellated towers at the corners, which marked the northern limit of the third ring of walls. Its guests included princes, queens and soldiers of fortune, such as Joanna of Anjou.Reduced almost to ruins, in 1750 it was restored by Luigi Vanvitelli for Charles of Bourbon and turned into cavalry quarters, which gave the area its name. In the 20th century it became a judicial psychiatric hospital and today it houses the Naples North court. We recommend admiring its bulk from the outside during a stroll through the centre.
