In the Abbey of the Santissimo Salvatore, at San Salvatore Telesino, finds from the ancient Samnite and Roman town of Telesia.
Since 2010 the Benedictine Abbey of the Santissimo Salvatore in San Salvatore Telesino has housed an archaeological collection dedicated to ancient Telesia, the Samnite town and later Roman colony whose ruins lie not far away. In the rooms of the monastery, everyday objects, jewellery, statues, pottery and work tools from the excavations are on display.The route takes visitors from the Samnite period to the Roman colony and on to the town's destruction, and alongside the ancient finds you can admire medieval works from the abbey. We also like having a look at the well of St Anselm, which tradition says was dug where the saint indicated during his stay. We recommend completing the day with the Telesia archaeological area.
