On the hill above San Salvatore Telesino, the ruins of the Sanframondo family's 13th-century fortress, overlooking the Telesina valley.
On a hill overlooking San Salvatore Telesino and the Telesina valley lie the ruins of the fortress built in the 13th century by the Sanframondo counts to watch over their lands. Around it grew the village of Massa Superiore and, after the 1349 earthquake that destroyed Telesia, the bishops lived here for years, so much so that it was called Rocca De Episcopio.The bishops' move to Cerreto, the passing of the fief to the Carafa and the birth of the present village led to its abandonment. The fortress had a rectangular plan with four cylindrical towers at the corners, of which bases and stumps remain today. We like climbing up here for the view and to imagine the old stronghold, bearing in mind that the site is in a state of neglect.
