Ethnographic museum in the medieval village of Castelvenere, on wine, tuff cellars, photographic memory and the figure of St Barbatus.
In the medieval village of Castelvenere, among towers and cellars dug into the tuff in the 14th and 15th centuries, the museum occupies the old Palazzo Barone. The first section tells the story of work in the fields and above all the town's winemaking tradition, with farm tools, household objects and the evocative cellars.Next come a collection of photographs of weddings, festivals and life in the fields, a section on St Barbatus, born here in 602 and later Bishop of Benevento, and an archaeological section with Samnite-Roman inscriptions and cippi. It currently appears to be closed: we recommend checking beforehand, but the village is worth a stroll anyway.
