A 1st-century BC Roman bath complex on several levels, with well-preserved rooms and mosaics of mother-of-pearl and shells.

In the territory of Lauro survive the remains of the Roman villa of San Giovanni in Palco, an imposing bath complex dating from the 1st century BC. The structure unfolds over several levels that can still be clearly read, and we like it because it makes it easy to imagine life in a wealthy country residence in Campania in the late Republican age.We suggest picking out the typical rooms of the baths: frigidarium, tepidarium and calidarium, the essential stages of the Roman bath. The detail that strikes us most is the mosaics decorated with mother-of-pearl and blue shells, a rare refinement. The visit pairs well with a stroll through the village of Lauro.
