Church of Maria Santissima della Carità

  • Visit: about 20 min
  • 289 m

A church in the centre of Moschiano, formerly the Corpo di Cristo, with a wooden door of 1592 and a 16th-century Pietà.

In Moschiano's historic centre, near the town hall, stands the church of Maria Santissima della Carità, once known as the church of the Corpo di Cristo. It probably dates from the early 16th century, was restored in 1848 and again after the 1980 earthquake. We are struck by the wooden door of 1592, with panels devoted to the Passion and the Resurrection.Inside are a 16th-century Pietà, a 19th-century Communion of the Apostles and a wooden statue of the Madonna, whose pedestal tells the story of the sanctuary on the hill. We suggest visiting it before climbing to the sanctuary of the Carità: the two churches are linked by the same devotion and the same legend.
