Palace-fortress built in 1500–1501, known as Castel Nuovo, with a crenellated tower, arrow slits and an old well.

Once called Castel Nuovo, to distinguish it from the older Norman castle destroyed by the 1456 earthquake, this palace-fortress was built between 1500 and 1501 at the wish of Ferdinando Pappacoda, feudal lord of Lacedonia from 1496. It stands to the west of the village of the time and was built for defence.Fragments of merlons, cannon ports, the wall walk, arrow slits and underground passages can still be made out. Of the three original towers one remains, with merlons on the south side, together with the old well. The castle is not accessible: we recommend admiring it from the outside from Piazza De Sanctis.
