Photography museum with over 1,800 pictures from 1957 showing rural life in Lacedonia before the great emigration.

MAVI occupies a 19th-century building in the centre of Lacedonia, once a prison and magistrate's court, renovated on three floors after the 1980 earthquake. The project stems from an anthropology book about the town published in the late 1950s, which invited people to rediscover a crucial moment in local history. The heart of the museum is 1,801 photographs taken between January and July 1957 by a young American anthropology student. They move us because they vividly convey the farming world later emptied by post-war emigration. We recommend taking all the time you need.
