A late Gothic medieval house in Piedimonte di Casolla, a district of Caserta, with a tower and views across the plain to Vesuvius.

Along the road that climbs towards Casertavecchia, in the hamlet of Piedimonte di Casolla, stands Palazzo Orfitelli, a medieval residence named after the family that owned it until 1862. Its date and patrons remain uncertain, between the 13th and 15th centuries; a French fleur-de-lis on a window suggests a patron close to the Angevin-Durazzo court. For centuries it lay hidden beneath the guise of an anonymous farmhouse.Restoration work in the early 2000s brought to light a late Gothic house with an L-shaped plan, a square three-storey tower joining the two wings, large pointed openings and Renaissance tuff windows. We love the courtyard open to the plain, from which the eye reaches Vesuvius and the islands of the gulf. We recommend combining it with the abbey of San Pietro ad Montes.
