Palazzo Cocozza di Montanara

  • Visit: about 50 min

A 14th-century palazzo in Piedimonte di Casolla, a district of Caserta, chosen by Pasolini for some scenes of the Decameron.

In Piedimonte di Casolla, one of Caserta's hill districts, stands Palazzo Cocozza di Montanara, whose origins date back to the 14th century. It bears witness to the ancient fabric of the villages surrounding the city, long before the Bourbon era.We love a cinematic detail: in 1970 Pier Paolo Pasolini shot some scenes of his Decameron here, drawn by the medieval atmosphere of the place. We recommend combining the visit with a walk through Caserta's hill villages, such as Casertavecchia, to discover an older face of the area.
