National Archaeological Museum of Sessa Aurunca

Opened in December 2024 in the ducal castle, the National Archaeological Museum of Sessa Aurunca tells the story of the territory between the Volturno and southern Lazio, from the Iron Age with the Ausones and Aurunci to the Roman conquest and the founding of the colonies of Suessa and Minturnae. The first rooms are devoted to settlements and sanctuaries, such as that of Marica at the mouth of the Garigliano.The Roman section covers Falernian wine, country villas and necropolises, and Suessa itself. Above all we like the Roman theatre room, with the statue of Vibia Matidia Minor; 3D videos reconstruct the theatre and show the bronze Kore now in London. On loan from MANN is the Venus of Sinuessa. The route is accessible, with tactile stations and audio descriptions.
