Church · Sessa Aurunca (CE)

In Sessa Aurunca, the Church of the Immacolata, formerly San Francesco, dated 1433, with a rectangular hall twinned with Sant'Agostino.
In the little square that bears its name, in Sessa Aurunca, stands the church known as the Immacolata, originally dedicated to St Francis of Assisi and attached to a convent. The cultural heritage catalogue dates it to 1433 and places it in the season of the Campanian Renaissance, one of the most fruitful for the town's architecture. We like comparing it with the nearby Church of Sant'Agostino: the two buildings are contemporary and share the same simple, bright rectangular hall layout. We suggest looking at them one after the other during a walk through the historic centre, to see how the town renewed itself in the 15th century; check access beforehand, as the complex has had safety issues.
