Church of Santo Stefano in Sessa Aurunca

  • Visit: about 20 min

Along Corso Lucilio in Sessa Aurunca, the medieval Church of Santo Stefano, now a parish, dating from the 13th–14th centuries.

On Corso Lucilio, the main street of Sessa Aurunca's historic centre, stands the Church of Santo Stefano. Its origins are medieval: sources place it between the 13th and 14th centuries, and the national cultural heritage catalogue records it as a church of monastic origin. Today it is one of the town's parishes. We like including it in a walk along the Corso, where churches follow one another at short distances, telling of centuries of Auruncan religious history. We suggest looking up at the façades and portals, then continuing towards the Romanesque cathedral, the true monumental heart of Sessa, to round off your discovery of the town.
