Church · Castel di Sasso (CE)
Church in the Cisterna hamlet of Castel di Sasso, founded in 1593 at the height of the post-Tridentine religious renewal.
In the small hamlet of Cisterna, in Castel di Sasso, stands the Church of Santi Pietro e Paolo. It was founded in 1593 on the initiative of a local family, with a deed drawn up in the presence of the bishop of the time. Its foundation belongs to the climate of religious renewal that followed the Council of Trent, which saw many churches arise in the hamlets of the area. The founding families also claimed the right of burial here, as happened in other churches of the area. We like knowing that the church once held 17th-century altarpieces, now kept elsewhere. We recommend passing by during a tour of the hill villages of Castel di Sasso, to discover a little-known page of the history of the Middle Volturno.
