Church of San Biagio Vescovo e Martire in Castel di Sasso

  • Visit: about 20 min
  • 377 m

18th-century parish church of the village of Sasso, dedicated to the patron St Blaise, celebrated on 3 February with heartfelt rites.

In the medieval village of Sasso, which gives the municipality its name, overlooking the little square of the same name, stands the parish Church of San Biagio. The present building dates from the mid-18th century: it has a rectangular single-hall plan, tuff walls and a gabled roof covered with clay tiles, and is now in the diocese of Alife-Caiazzo.We like the deep bond between the church and the community, which celebrates its patron saint every 3 February. On that occasion the traditional St Blaise biscuits are made and the rite of anointing the throat is renewed, asking for the saint's protection. We recommend visiting the village on those very days, to experience an authentic tradition.
