Old church in Montanara documented since 1113, with a polychrome marble altar, an 18th-century wooden choir and a 17th-century altarpiece.

The first mention of this church appears in a 1113 bull of the Archbishop of Capua, but its origins are probably older, as suggested by two arches that emerged during restoration. We like discovering how a neighbourhood building holds so much history. The high altar is a rich inlay of coloured marbles, flanked by the gridiron and the palm, symbols of St Lawrence. Behind it is the mid-18th-century wooden choir, with two rows of stalls at different heights, made when the parish became an archpriesthood. We recommend looking up at the altarpiece of the Virgin and St Lawrence, from the second half of the 17th century.
