Church of San Giovanni a Villa

  • Visit: about 20 min

Church in Sessa Aurunca remodelled between the 13th and 18th centuries, with an old painted panel Crucifix and canvases of the Solimena school.

Among the churches of Sessa Aurunca we like pointing out San Giovanni a Villa, a building whose history stretches from the 13th to the 18th century, century after century, with rebuildings and additions that can still be read in its structure. The plan is enriched by a transept, which gives breathing space to the interior and houses some of the most interesting furnishings. We suggest approaching the high altar, where a painted panel Crucifix from the early 15th century, a work of great charm, is preserved. On the transept altars you will find two canvases attributed to a painter close to Francesco Solimena: a fine excuse for a quiet stop during a stroll through the historic centre.
