Church of Gothic origin on Corso Lucilio in Sessa Aurunca, with a Baroque façade between two towers and a 15th-century fresco.

Along Corso Lucilio, in the heart of Sessa Aurunca, stands the Church of San Giovanni Battista a Piazza. The building was born in Gothic forms, as the lancet windows along its sides recall, and was later clad in a Baroque façade set between two towers: the one with the clock shows Hercules slaying the lion, a reference to the town's coat of arms.In the pediment a bas-relief depicts the Madonna della Misericordia, while inside we are struck by the 15th-century fresco of St Catherine of Alexandria along the nave. The church is linked to the rites of Sessa's Holy Week: we suggest visiting at that time, when the statue of the Immacolata kept here takes centre stage in one of the processions.
