In the San Benedetto district, south-east of Caserta, a church of medieval origin dedicated to the saint who gives the area its name.

On the south-eastern outskirts of Caserta, towards Maddaloni, the district of San Benedetto owes its very name to the cult of Saint Benedict the Abbot. The parish church, part of the diocese of Caserta, has ancient origins: sources date it to the 11th century, and it is still the spiritual heart of the neighbourhood's community today. We like to remember that the district venerates two patron saints, Saint Benedict and Saint Anne, a sign of deeply rooted popular devotion. We recommend combining a stop at the church with a walk around the area, now also enlivened by the university, and remembering that not far away stand the Royal Mills designed by Luigi Vanvitelli, sadly in a state of neglect.
