The mother church of Petruro Irpino, of 14th-century origin and once an abbey, with a painting of the martyrdom of Saint Bartholomew and a 17th-century picture.

Along Via Chiaio, in the small centre of Petruro Irpino, stands the church of San Bartolomeo Apostolo, the village's mother church. Its origins date back to around the 14th century: it was once an abbey and the seat of the rural vicariate, so much so that the parish priest can still bear the title of abbot. The last major restoration dates from 1977.Inside are a 1920 canvas by Vincenzo Sorrentino of the martyrdom of Saint Bartholomew, a 17th-century painting of the Madonna of Montevergine carried in procession every year, and a relic of the saint. Please note that the building suffers from structural problems with its roof and bell tower: before going, we suggest checking whether it can be visited.
