9th–10th-century church in the medieval village of Atena Lucana, with an east-facing apse and a canvas of St Nicholas from 1645.

The Church of San Nicola dates from between the late 9th and early 10th centuries and stands within the walls of the medieval town. Like the oldest churches from around the year 1000, its apse faces east, towards the Orient. The single-nave interior was remodelled in Neoclassical style in the 19th century; the apse has a 14th-century cross vault. We like the stone and marble altar of 1790, brought from the old parish of San Michele, and the canvas of St Nicholas from 1645 behind it.
