Remains of 4th-century BC megalithic walls at Serrone, in Atena Lucana, which once encircled the ancient settlement.

At Serrone, in Atena Lucana, the remains survive of the mighty megalithic walls that encircled the ancient settlement in the 4th century BC. Built of large stone blocks, they are also traditionally called Pelasgian walls, because the town's origins were attributed to very ancient peoples. We like walking beside these stones and imagining the Lucanian settlement that dominated the Vallo di Diano. We suggest rounding off the visit by climbing up to the historic centre, to link the walls with the other traces of ancient Atina, and enjoying the view over the valley below.
