Ruins of the medieval castle on Monte Nebulano, overlooking Montecorvino Rovella and the Picentino valley.

On the summit of Monte Nebulano, behind Montecorvino Rovella, stand the ruins of a castle that was part of the defensive network of the Picentino valley. Its origins are debated: there is talk of a Lombard watchtower, but the hill was already frequented in prehistoric times. The castle passed to the Normans, then to the archbishops of Salerno, and endured sieges and sackings until it was abandoned in the 16th century. Today stretches of wall, a well and traces of the lower court remain. We suggest climbing up for the panorama: we like to imagine here the events also evoked in 19th-century literature.
