Remains of the 1553 Dominican convent in the hamlet of Salitto, recognisable by its large, partly collapsed bell tower.

In the hamlet of Salitto you come across the ruins of the convent of Santa Maria di Costantinopoli, easy to spot thanks to the majestic bell tower, partly collapsed in the 1980 earthquake. Construction began in 1553, when the community of Olevano asked the Dominicans to settle in the town, buying a plot of land for them. The convent became a lively religious and administrative centre, but it was abandoned after Joachim Murat's 1806 decree suppressing convents with fewer than twelve religious. Over time the ruins were gradually stripped. We like walking around these silent remains: we recommend viewing them with care, enjoying the atmosphere of the place.
