Small 1st-century AD Roman temple dedicated to Hercules, discovered in 1962 above a necropolis, with a mosaic and inscriptions.

In the Campo district, a short walk from the square, stands this small Roman temple from the 1st century AD, brought to light in 1962 during an excavation. It sits above a Roman necropolis and has a small trapezoidal plan. At the entrance there is a stone tablet dedicated to a senator, and in the centre a fragment of a column and part of a mosaic remain. We like its floor inscription in black tesserae on a white ground: it records that the temple was restored between the 3rd and 4th centuries for the god Hercules by Titus Fundanius Optatus, a senator and major landowner in the area. Today the site is closed and can be viewed from the outside: we recommend passing by during a visit to the town.
