A small chapel on the Calvary hill in Calitri, destination of the evocative Good Friday procession.

On a small rise known, fittingly, as the Calvario stands this chapel which, according to tradition, was built by a member of the Gervasi family on his return from a crusade in the Holy Land. The façade originally faced south; after the 1910 earthquake, during repair works, it was turned to face west.We suggest being in Calitri on Good Friday, when the chapel becomes the destination of the procession re-enacting the Passion: the statue of the dying Jesus is carried from the church of the Immacolata up to the Calvary, accompanied by that of Our Lady of Sorrows. We are moved by the community's deep involvement in this rite.
