A 16th-century church in Cairano dedicated to the patron saint, Leo the Great, celebrated on the last Sunday of July.

The church of San Leone stands in the historic centre of Cairano, on Piazza IV Novembre. The cultural heritage catalogue dates it to the 16th century, the work of local craftsmen. It is dedicated to Saint Leo the Great, the first pope to be called "the Great" and the village's patron saint, and it is one of the places the community identifies with most.It has the sober look of Irpinia's rural churches, without frills but rich in meaning. We suggest visiting Cairano on the last Sunday of July, when the patronal feast carries the saint in procession through the village streets. We then like to continue up to the Calvario hill, from which the view sweeps over the surrounding valleys.
