Tower · Calitri (AV)

Round Angevin-style tower beside the west gate of the 16th-century walls, which re-emerged after demolitions in 1987.
This tower stands beside the western gate of Calitri's 16th-century walls, known as Porta di Nanno. In the 18th century it was absorbed into new houses and lost from view, until demolitions in 1987 along Corso Matteotti revealed it again in all its bulk.It rests on a truncated-cone base supported by the slope and, following the rules of Angevin military architecture, had a circular plan and stood more than ten metres high. Recently restored, it now houses the monitoring instruments for the landslide area: we recommend admiring it as you stroll along the main street.
