The 11th-century Norman castle of Zungoli, with three surviving cylindrical towers: still lived in, it dominates the historic centre.

The castle of Zungoli dominates the village's medieval historic centre and probably dates from the 11th century, when it was built to defend the area from Byzantine raids. It originally had four cylindrical corner towers: three survive today, as one collapsed in the 1456 earthquake. The main façade is about 30 metres long and 14 metres high. The most visible features date from the 15th century, and the corner towers are probably the work of Pirro del Balzo. From the 16th century the fief belonged to the Loffredo family until 1806. The castle is still a private residence today: we suggest admiring it from outside, strolling through the alleys of one of the most charming villages in Irpinia.
