A church in Villanova del Battista rebuilt after the 1930 and 1980 earthquakes, with two 17th-century paintings of the Passion.

The church of Santa Maria Assunta has had to be reborn several times: it was rebuilt after the earthquakes of 1930 and 1980, which left a deep mark on Villanova del Battista. Despite its wounds, it holds works of great interest and remains a landmark for the community. We suggest looking for the two 17th-century canvases, attributed to the school of Luca Giordano, depicting the Fall of Christ and the Deposition. We also like the bas-relief of the four Evangelists, a gift from friends in Miramont-de-Guyenne, in France, a sign of a heartfelt twinning, and the Baptism of Jesus painted by a local artist.
