More than seventy works by contemporary artists from around the world, created in response to the 1980 Irpinia earthquake.

After the earthquake that devastated Campania and Basilicata on 23 November 1980, the Neapolitan gallery owner Lucio Amelio invited major contemporary artists to respond to the catastrophe. The result was the Terrae Motus collection, whose Latin name means earthquake: a collective dialogue on what art can do in the face of destruction and rebirth. There are more than seventy works, signed by names such as Andy Warhol, Joseph Beuys, Keith Haring, Robert Rauschenberg, Robert Mapplethorpe, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Jannis Kounellis and Mimmo Paladino. We particularly like Warhol's famous Fate Presto and Beuys's Terremoto in Palazzo. We recommend combining the visit with the Royal Palace of Caserta, which houses the collection.
