The Temple of Athena at Paestum, long known as the Temple of Ceres, in the northern part of the city.

The Temple of Athena was built at the end of the 6th century BC on the highest part of the city. For centuries it was called the Temple of Ceres. It combines the Doric style on the outside with Ionic elements in the pronaos. In the Middle Ages it was turned into a church, and Christian tombs were found around it.
