The remains of the medieval castle of Capaccio Vecchio, scene of the siege with which Frederick II of Swabia crushed the barons' conspiracy.
On the heights overlooking the plain of Paestum lie the remains of the castle of Capaccio Vecchio, the ancient medieval Caputaquis. Its name is tied to one of the most dramatic episodes of the 13th century: this is where the barons who had plotted a conspiracy against Emperor Frederick II of Swabia took refuge.Besieged in the height of summer and left without water, the conspirators were forced to surrender and were punished in exemplary fashion. We recommend coming up here to breathe in its history and enjoy a wide panorama over the Gulf of Salerno, between the Sele plain and the hills of the Cilento: we love climbing up here after a day among the temples on the plain.
