Sanctuary of Maria Santissima Incoronata, built next to a spring believed to heal, with a late Baroque façade and a painted dome.

The sanctuary of the Madonna dei Bagni, dedicated to Maria Santissima Incoronata, grew out of a devotion linked to water: those who bathed in a nearby spring were cured of skin diseases. Next to the spring a votive chapel was built first, then the church. Once part of Angri, in 1928 it passed to Scafati when Pompei became an independent municipality. We like the early 18th-century late Baroque façade with its bell tower. Inside, with three naves, vaults and a dome, we recommend looking for the wooden crucifix and the painting of the Madonna dei Bagni by Simone Villano. Then look up at the dome with the ascending Virgin, the prophets in the arches and the virtues in the pendentives.
