San Iconio Pine Forest

  • Visit: about 2 h

Rare natural Aleppo pine forest next to the cliffs of Cala del Cefalo, an area of great interest for flora and fauna.

The San Iconio Pine Forest borders the rocky walls of Cala del Cefalo to the west and is one of the few naturally grown Aleppo pine woods in all of Campania, not planted by man. Alongside the pines there are Mediterranean shrublands adapted to the heat and caves that have remained off the tourist circuits. The wildlife consists mainly of birds and bats, but the four-lined snake, a large harmless serpent, also lives here, along with a rare protected dragonfly. For us it is a place to walk through slowly and respectfully, watching and listening: we recommend staying on the paths and bringing binoculars for birdwatching.
