Castle
Marquis's Castle of Camerota
Il castello di Camerota di origine normanna, incendiato dai Turchi nel 1552.
Castle · Camerota (SA)

Ruins of the Monte Delmo castle, on a rocky plateau above Licusati, guarding the Mingardo valley since the 11th century.
Above Licusati, a hamlet of Camerota, the remains of the castle of Monte Delmo occupy a rocky plateau from which the whole Mingardo valley could be controlled. The fortress is first mentioned in a document of 1079, a sign of very ancient origins linked to the defence of this stretch of Cilento. It could once be entered only by a drawbridge, protected by a machicolation. Beyond the first ring of walls you can still make out the remains of a square keep and various service rooms. We like climbing up here above all for the view over the valley: we recommend combining the visit with a tour of the inland villages.
