On the hill between the Lambro and Mingardo, near Palinuro, lie the ruins of the Norman castle of Molpa, abandoned after 1464.

On the hill rising between the mouths of the Lambro and the Mingardo, a short distance from Capo Palinuro, lie the remains of Molpa Castle. The site was inhabited from antiquity, but it was in the Norman period that the settlement was rebuilt on the height and defended by a great fortress, later strengthened by the Angevins.Life in the village came to an end in 1464, when corsairs destroyed it and the inhabitants never returned. Today the ruins look out over the sea and the Mediterranean scrub. We recommend climbing up in comfortable shoes: we especially love the view over the coast and the beach below, one of the finest in the Cilento.
